annoying, but only silence works for me
blehblah
silence is the best yeah
RustyShackleford
who wears dress shirts to work every day?
blehblah
ocassionally the music of my own voice swearing at the stupid box
RustyShackleford
I seriously need to improve my ironing skills
blehblah
RustyShackleford: the masochist?
RustyShackleford
I guess. I'd say over half of people wear dress shirts to work. Might as well follow the crowd
dolemite_
nso95, can you be more specific
blehblah
pick the most comfortable attire to go through the day so you can focus on your fkn job
(which for programmers is mostly NOT talking to people and looking slick&presentable)
matt|home
question: if you try to read a file into memory in a program, is it important to do error checking and be like "yo this file is too big" , or does the OS do that automatically and you dont have to worry about it?
RustyShackleford
blehblah: I definitely agree with you
to a certain point. I still have to talk to programmers, many of whom are also wearing dress shirts
blehblah
RustyShackleford: on the other hand I do wear semiformal shirts to work, it makes me feel more srious about myself
RustyShackleford
a nice shirt might make me look less fresh out of college
more like a guy who gets sh*t done
blehblah
yeah true
RustyShackleford
I can't wait until I'm not the new guy anymore
blehblah
RustyShackleford: :D
yeah, it rocks!
jeaye
My attire varies from shorts/linux tees/slippers to slacks/nice shirt/tie because I'm allowed to dress myself nowadays.
blehblah
matt|home usually you don't read a whole file into memory. that's what buffering is used for?
matt|home
well
blehblah : looky
http://paste2.org/y4JOeNHt <-- in my prog
if the file's too big, do i care if the computer throws a hissyfit?
blehblah
jeaye: yeap. small/mid company?
RustyShackleford
I would like to log into my vps at work so I have IRC. ##android-dev might be really useful
jeaye
blehblah: Even in larger companies, I'm generally on smaller and more focused teams who cares less.
RustyShackleford
just wondering if work can see what I'm chatting about on IRC. I have a private/public keypair
nso95_
RustyShackleford: job title?
RustyShackleford
Application Developer
dolemite_
most comfortable coding attire: joggers, long sleeve shirt, slippers
jeaye
I wouldn't take a job that required me to wear something specific.
nso95_
Ah, wasn't sure with the dress shirts
blehblah
jeaye: agreed, that's a really good position to be in
nso95_
jeaye: not even pants?
RustyShackleford
I don't think they would fire me for wearing a tshirt. Some do, but the majority seems to dress up more
except the guys who have been there for like 9 years
blehblah
RustyShackleford: I think being in this channel is totally work safe.
or the whole server in general.
jeaye
blehblah: Nah
dolemite_
are equivalence relations/partial orders even used in programming?
jeaye
blehblah: Plenty of NSFW channels on freenode.
nso95_
I'm fine with dress shirts if unbutton the 2-3 top buttons
blehblah
jeaye: LOL okay! I'm yet to discover them
dolemite_
i feel like 90% of what i learn in discrete math is useles.
jeaye
blehblah: *-offtopic and *-social
blehblah
but basically I haven't been asked in a few months I've been here what I'm doing on IRC, but I've been helped so many times in this and a few other channels
RustyShackleford
blehblah: even if I keep it safe for work, I'm also curious about privacy. I like maintaining some shred of privacy while I'm there
blehblah
it's super good place with lots of experts
RustyShackleford
I won't log my phone into their wireless network
nso95_
RustyShackleford: do you have an office?
RustyShackleford
hell no
nso95_
Figures
RustyShackleford
open workspace, nobody has an office
blehblah
RustyShackleford: yeah I care about that too but it's kind of impractical. But definitely don't ever log on your personal mail and stuff
nso95_
I have mixed opinions on open workspaces
RustyShackleford
it seemed kind of dumb but I think it works
blehblah
nso95_: really? i thought everyone's opinion is that open offices suck
RustyShackleford
I do wish my desk was more comfortable. I have been working on a laptop
nso95_
I'm just often uncomfortable in open spaces, but I like being with other people while working
RustyShackleford
there are some stations with an external monitor
blehblah
meh, if everyone has an office, you could go to colleagues anyway
RustyShackleford
but I want to be around people while i'm figuring this out
nso95_
And at the same time I'm uncomfortable around people
RustyShackleford: get one
blehblah
it's just nice to have your own private space to retreat to
on3pk_
Big Hackathon coming up on Friday
I need some ideas
himanshu
Hi guys, How to further optimize this code? I have written a solution for it. http://ideone.com/6RpEqc .Please help
nso95_
RustyShackleford: you're entitled to w monitor
A*
blehblah
matt|home: sadly I can't help you with this, it's beyond my competence
matt|home
.. it's okay, thank you for trying
on3pk_
I saw a suggestion to make "Tindr for Babies" but I kinda think that has already been done
blehblah
looks like nmap would fail though
if you didn't have enough space
try to restrict the heap to a couple of MB and map a really large file, maybe?
or it's not even in the heap
pewpau
perhaps someone in here could help me. I need to focus fully on math and put my own projects aside for a few months, but I'm so obsessed with programming my own stuff. Got any experience and soultion?
WilliamLeara
what kind of math?
nso95_
pewpau: trade programming for math
dolemite_
pewpau, project euler
blehblah
pewpau: revisit why you need to focus fully on math
dolemite_
lol
blehblah
you'll either get convinced and find your purpose or throw irrelevant math study aside
there's NOTHING wrong with doing what you want
RustyShackleford
I studied math, took many CS classes as electives
programming combined with math can be some cool stuff
blehblah
i've got a definition question: can a picture be part of a log?
does it make sense to "log" pictures?
nso95_
Wish I were better at math
RustyShackleford
nso95_: I studied it and I still suck, so don't feel bad
blehblah
being good in math is like being good in programming
nso95_
RustyShackleford: define suck?
