This is where Scheme shines again.
blehblah
it was easy as heck (of course, the WYSIWYG was one of the things that had some problems)
Anduin
oded_ it's pretty funny, but the interviewer's responses are ridiculous
Sounds like he's reading a script.
pyon
blehblah: Weird. I think the Form Designer is one of the best parts of Visual Studio. Microsoft might not make good languages, but they've pioneered good UI-making tools.
oded_
so OOP wasn't a joke, the top devs of the world don't find it a waste of time?
wafflejock
oded_: looks like complete BS from what I've seen of Bjarne on videos also sounds completely ridiculous
blehblah
well you guys definitely sold me on Scheme and Racket - I'll definitely look to see if there's a suitable course for my bro to refer to
jeaye
oded_: No, that's not real.
pyon
blehblah: The whole JavaScript/CSS world is years behind where Microsoft were in the 90's in terms of usability.
wafflejock
oded_: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=bjarne+stroustrup
oded_
*phew* thought I was going mad cause I'm a true believer of sound oops
oop*
Anduin
Im off to bed . 3 AM here. Goodbye!
blehblah
pyon: I don't think it's MS' fault, I generally think WYSIWYG editors are trying to box a complex situation into a simpler frame, and they need some massaging to do what you want them to do.
Anduin: good ngiht!
pyon
Anduin: gn :-)
oded_
Anduin: gn
what does the _ mean at the end of my name? there was another oded when I joined?
blehblah
pyon: i'm not the one to discuss web programming. lol! (no interest)
oded_: maybe you timed out and it used your alt?
oded_
just ignore it?
blehblah
./nick oded
nitrix
/nick oded
blehblah
nitrix: hax
oded_
oded_ oded #RubyOnRails Cannot change nickname while banned on channel
I don't feel banned
blehblah
I USED TO KNOW HOW TO DO THAT HEY!
pyon
oded_: Ah, some channels don't want you to change your nick while you're there.
blehblah
oded_: Krampus is comign for ya!
oded
worked now
blehblah
btw https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_multi-paradigm_programming_languages
interesting
oded
new to IRC (at 26, who knew). does the nick mean anything?
pyon
oded: Nothing in particular.
wafflejock
it's what we call you?
just a nickname
pyon
oded: It's just some way to identify you in conversation. :-)
blehblah
oded: but it MAY mean your bank account information
oded
so no long term effects :P
pyon
blehblah: lol
wafflejock
oded: you may notice some swelling :)
oded
blehblah: lol
blehblah
(Action) hint hint
man I would love to find a bag of money on the ground today
wafflejock
oded: you can register your nick on freenode so you can use it consistently, some channels require people to have registered nicks to join but aside from that they're fluid
blehblah
but noo, time to go to the bank to give money >>
pyon
oded: `/msg nickserv help register` for more info :-)
blehblah
you can probably register a channel and go on a power trip about that
notmybomb
what am i doing wrong here? http://pastebin.com/yQDg5eXu swans can't inherit from birds in a different module.
blehblah
it was all the rage in the 90's
nitrix
blehblah: You can escape the / with another /
/example
blehblah
nitrix: not on mirc
/test
ctrl+enter, yeah that's how it was
oded
blehblah: I'll give you this instead and you can tell me if it's worth anything: http://programwithhead.blogspot.co.il/2015/11/sql-vs-nosql-vs-search-engine.html
nitrix
Oh gosh mIRC.
nso95_
I used to spend hours writing mirc scripts
blehblah
oded: seems an interesting read
notmybomb
do you see anything wrong..? http://pastebin.com/yQDg5eXu "call" is "unresolved method or function" in according to the program.
blehblah
for someone who generally stays away from data and data management
nitrix: yeap, I'm a lamer. Still didn't register. Nor did I register Winrar
oded
blehblah: interesting read even though you stay away from data? even better
blehblah
nso95_: a LONG time ago I wrote a script to send private correspondence to me, and distributed it with a game I ripped off from somewhere.
it could only relay received messages, not sent
funrep_
hi when i run a my java project in eclipse what directory is it run in? (trying to load files into the program so i need to know which path to use)
blehblah
oded: not from data per se, but I mostly use nosql, and let other people care of the database, and the model
I don't like to manage the data, just analyze/produce it
oded
blehblah: scraping?
notmybomb
rindolf: would you mind take a look at this? http://pastebin.com/yQDg5eXu swans can't inherit from birds in a different module.
pyon
oded: At the risk of sounding like a left-brained nerd with no social skills nor empathy for human beings with more flexible ways of thinking, I'm going to say this: I can see a use case for relational databases. I can see a use case for search engines (although I wouldn't want to work with them, 'cause too complex). But NoSQL seems to me like it caters to idiots who lack the logical reasoning
skills to think about the structure of their data.
blehblah
oded: scraping what? i do algorithms and use hardware to obtain data
rindolf
Hi all.
notmybomb
it's past 10 am where i live and i still haven't gone to bed& so kind of desperate.
pyon
oded: I mean - flexible (whatever that might mean)
oded
pyon: NoSQL is not instead of structuring your data. It's just a filesystem to dump the data
blehblah: sounds cool
pyon
oded: Yeah, so then use the file system.
blehblah
pyon: use case for what? for managing data?
pyon
blehblah: yea
blehblah
okay
rindolf
notmybomb: is this node.js?
pyon
oded: Data *has* to be structured to be processed with a program. Algorithms operate on data *structures*.
oded
pyon: well it gives you option to scale (sharding), and an API (well filesystems give that to), and other small features, but yeah it's practically the same
pyon
oded: If you don't have a data structure, you don't have something a program can work on.
notmybomb
rindolf: yes.
rindolf: call is supposedly "unresolved method or function"
blehblah
wait, noSQL does NOT include just dumping stuff into the filesystem?
pyon
blehblah: It does more than that.
oded
Even in a filesystem it's still a structure. Say you implement Google Drive, you don't really need to analyze the document itself as a document, but you do need to keep reference to it and remember who its shared with
blehblah: it does, in my opinion
but with some more features
but that's depending on the implementation
blehblah
I think I see what you guys are talking about - managing the project's data as a whole, not just temporary specific modules' data
i'm out of this discussion - I shoulda been a while ago :o
oded
well yeah, the system's architecture
lol

Is it fine if I study 2 programming languages at the same time (C++ at school, self-study haskell)? I have some experience with Java and Python as well, but never study two of them simultaneously.
